Sad news in the UN Year of the Dolphin that the baji is likely to be extinct now as a result of human activities. This is the first global extinction of a large vertebrate for over 50 years and also represents the disappearance of an entire mammal family.

Interesting article about why dolphins have such large brains. It draws on several studies of which the most recent is by Lori Marino who suggests that their large brain evolved as a result of their socially complex lifestyles.
